Research

IGC research interests are focused on understanding the genetic bases of development and evolution of complex biological systems. We privilege organism-centred approaches, using experimental models including plants, yeast, flies, fish and mice, while also working on the genetics of complex human traits and diseases. The institute hosts up to 50 international research groups, offering a multidisciplinary environment where both computational and experimental approaches are pursued.

Research at the IGC involves 100 scientists, including group leaders, research fellows and post-doctoral researchers, 100 PhD students, and a further 40 undergraduate and Masters’ students. It is underpinned by 60 research support and administrative staff, maintaining central services and core facilities.

  • Internal Research Groups - research teams based at the IGC
  • Research Fellows - senior researchers who have set up independent research programmes, under direct responsibility of the Director of the IGC.
  • External Research Groups - research teams based outwith the IGC, maintaining strong scientific collaborations with IGC groups and facilities.

The IGC is a member of several international Research Structures.
